Which format should you choose?

Format is the biggest lever for quality versus file size. A quick guide:

JPG — the safe default for photos. Lossy and small, ideal for social uploads. No transparency support.
PNG — best for logos, icons, and screenshots that need sharp edges or transparency. Lossless and pixel-perfect, but larger for photos.
WEBP — a modern format that is 25–35% smaller than JPG at similar quality. Ideal where you control the platform, like your own website.

Quality and resizing

Lossy formats (JPG, WEBP) use a quality slider to control size. Around 0.85 is indistinguishable for most photos while cutting file size significantly. PNG is lossless, so quality control is disabled. When resizing, keep the maintain aspect ratio option on so nothing stretches.
