Send a photo over a messenger like WhatsApp or KakaoTalk and it often arrives softer than the original. Here's why, and how to send it as sharp as possible.
Messengers re-compress your photos
Most messengers auto-compress images for faster delivery, which cuts detail and adds blur. For why compression affects quality, see Lossy vs lossless compression.
How to keep quality
- Use "send as original / HD." Many messengers offer a full-quality option, though large files can be heavy for the recipient.
- Right-size it first. Oversized photos get compressed harder. Resizing the long edge to about 1600–2048px reduces how much the messenger squeezes it.
- Export JPG at 0.9. Re-sending an already heavily compressed image degrades it cumulatively — export once from a good original.
For the size/quality balance, see reducing file size without losing quality.
Seconds before you send
In the converter, resize the long edge to 2048px and export JPG at 0.9 — leaving the messenger less to re-do, so it arrives sharper. Everything runs in your browser, with no upload.
